Puranay Qissey Episode 3: Burns Road ka Bun Kabab is a cultural storytelling event in Karachi, presented by Local PopUp in collaboration with Purana Pakistan as part of the Purani Yadein celebrations on 14 and 15 August 2026. The episode uncovers the layered history behind one of Karachi's most iconic street foods. Burns Road itself didn't even get its name right — it was named after British spy-doctor James Burnes, with a spelling that stuck despite the error. Haji Abdul Razzak, who had no restaurant to his name, invented the bun kabab in the 1950s as an affordable, quick meal for factory workers on short lunch breaks — a simple combination of a daal patty, fried egg, green chutney, and a bun, sold for just a few annas. Seventy years later, the same spot, the same tawa, and the bun kabab remains a defining part of Karachi's food culture and identity. Organiser: Local PopUp Collaborator: Purana Pakistan
