Yaad-aavari / Movement-Memory is a week-long workshop hosted by Karachi LaJamia in Karachi, exploring material memory and the traces of language, land, and water struggles in the city. The workshop engages with the practice and spirit of movement archiving through close-readings and deep dives into activist newsletters, photo albums, ephemera, diaries, unfinished manuscripts, indexes, and catalogs. Facilitated by librarians, organisers, and photographers, the programme treats collecting and remembrance as a creative and imaginative practice — approaching archives as vibrant sites of renewal and possibility that may enable unexpected solidarities, political imaginaries, and cultural practices. Facilitated by: librarians, organisers, and photographers Themes: movement archiving, collective memory, material culture, activist ephemera, creative and imaginative collecting Open to: participants from any and all disciplines engaged in some form of archiving, collecting, or gathering — museum workers, librarians, birdwatchers, botanists, crate diggers, coders, and anyone working with personal family histories, expansive datasets, or anything in between.
